Sleepr privacy policy
The short version: Sleepr keeps everything it knows on your own computer. It sends nothing to us or to anyone else, has no accounts, and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking.
What Sleepr stores
To put a tab to sleep and wake it again, Sleepr stores the following in the browser's own extension storage, on your device:
- The address, title and icon address of each tab that is asleep. This is how a sleeping tab finds its page again, including after you restart the browser. The address also appears in the sleeping page's own address.
- A small grayscale screenshot of each tab you put to sleep, taken only at the moment you put that tab to sleep (with the shortcut, the toolbar button or the right-click menu). It is shown, blurred, behind the sleeping page. A screenshot can show whatever was on the page at that moment.
- Your settings: whether auto-sleep is on and after how many minutes, which tabs are protected, your never-sleep list of sites, and whether the right-click menu is on.
- Timing information: when each background tab was last looked at (used by auto-sleep, and kept only for the current browser session), and a short note about what happened to your sleeping tabs at the last browser restart.
What Sleepr does not do
- It does not send any data off your device. It makes no requests to us or to any third party.
- It does not collect your name, email address or any account information. There are no accounts.
- It does not read what you type, the contents of pages, cookies or passwords.
- It does not use analytics, advertising, tracking or crash reporting.
- It does not sell or share data, and it does not load or run code from anywhere else.
The one thing that touches the network
A sleeping page shows the site's own icon. The icon is loaded from the address your browser already gave the tab, which is the same request the browser makes to show that icon in its tab strip. It goes to the site you were already on, never to us or to a third party.
How long data is kept, and how to delete it
- A tab's address, title and screenshot are deleted when the tab wakes, when it is closed, or when it otherwise leaves the sleeping page. If storage runs low, the oldest screenshots are deleted first.
- Settings stay until you change them or remove the extension. Removing the extension deletes everything Sleepr stored.
- If you are signed in to your browser's sync, the browser itself may sync your settings (including your never-sleep list) between your devices, under that browser's own privacy policy. Sleepr never receives that data, and screenshots and the sleeping-tab list are never synced.
Why Sleepr asks for its permissions
- tabs: to see the address and title of tabs, put them to sleep, wake them and free their memory.
- activeTab: to take the screenshot of the tab you are putting to sleep, only when you ask.
- storage: to keep the information listed above.
- alarms: to run the optional auto-sleep check once a minute.
- contextMenus: for the optional right-click menu items.
Sleepr asks for no access to websites and has no content scripts.
Children
Sleepr collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Sleepr's handling of data ever changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Sleepr will not begin sending data off your device without that being stated here first.
